  • Bad lines?

What are the general rules regarding bad lines or how the books handle the action/compensate for the information? Case in point. I came across a bad number at one of my books today. Played it for a typical amount and began searching to see if I had missed some information. I quickly realized I had not, and I sent an email to the book to notify them of the error on the line. Approximately 15 minutes later I received a reply from the book stating only "we fixed it". Certainly, I was not surprised to see the bet canceled from my account, as the line was clearly invalid. However, some form of appreciation seems to be in order. Now, I really don't mean for this to come across the wrong way. I realize I am a comparatively small player. I am not looking for a large "finders fee", rather a token of appreciation or some courtesy. My initial conclusion is this. In the future, I'll play what's posted, if I choose to, and let them check their own lines. Any thoughts?

You did the right thing, providing the wager you made was in line with your average wager. Had you emptied your account on the mistake, that's a different story.

When you wager what you normally would on a mistake, and then promptly notify the book, many of the books will then honor the wager, afterall, by notifying them, you saved them future headaches.

I'm surprised they didn't let you keep the wager.......

Well, I thought I did, from what I have read previously in this forum. I figured what the heck. They may let me keep it. BTW, just to give you an idea of how long it took me to do the whole process, my email to them was sent within two minutes of placing the bet.

A really obvious error should not stand. For example, as in a case I saw this morning, a 14 point college football line was reversed at WWTS.

On a probable bad line I will make my normal play - if it is really obvious, such as this morning, I do not play it.
