  • Vegas Ideas for this Weekend

I also posted this in the Bookies Hell Posting forum but I figured this was a more logical place.

I am heading to Vegas this weekend for the first time in 18 months. Anyone been there recently and have thoughts as to what is the best sports\race book for size, comfort, etc....I don't want the LV Hilton as I will be on the strip. I am staying at the Paris Hilton.
As I recall, the MGM had a massive Race Book but the emphasis was off football. This will be good for Saturday which is Breeders Cup day, but I would like more of a combo. Wondering what any of the new places have to offer. Anyone seen the Paris Sports Book?? is it any good??

    Jack:

If you like Parleys, stay away from the strip books except for Stardust and Barbary Coast. Matter of fact the 'dust gets my vote for best on the strip in terms of comfort and payouts. But I always get away from the hassel of the strip so I go to Sunset Station.

      Jack,

The Stardust is always good....In my opinion Caesars is the best in terms of all around intangibles and aura.

The Paris sports book, once you find it, is small and out of the way and I can't recommend it....if you want to stay close then go to Ballys, otherwise the above choices are all good.

          Squirming for Action,

Isn't Bally's now on the same computerized hook-up as the Hilton, meaning that Jack Straw would find the same numbers there that he would at the Paris Hilton?

Also, has anyone been to the Resort at Summerlin? What's the sportsbook situation there? I drove by the place the last time I was in Vegas, but didn't go in. I must say that it is a mind-blowing structure.

            Reno,
You are correct...Hilton, Bally's, and Paris all have the same numbers, but I believe the question was based on where to go to watch the games and I can't recommend the Paris book, it's small, crowded and has no atmosphere, which is why I would suggest going next door to Bally's if didn't want to have an experience similar to watching sports in his hotel room closet...

My wife works as a faux-finisher and I got to see the Sumerlin book before it actually opened for busines, it's also small, but laid out more like a country club den rather than a book, small but comfortable.

                Reno,

The book at The Resort At Summerlin is small and is set-up like a country club with couches and individual chairs, there are no individual monitors and race players have a real difficulty because there is no place to spread out the Racing Form. The concept is nice, however, in practice is does not work. The folks that designed it never had any idea how a Vegas book should be laid out.

It is a stand alone book and is run by someone that has been in Vegas for the past 15 years. Jack (that is the sportsbook manager) is not afraid of a bet but he HATES runners and has done his best to 86 them.

The overall property is very beautiful but sometimes beautiful doesn't pay the bills. If any one has any other questions about The Resort At Summerlin please feel free because I have been associated with the project for the past two years.

Thanks folks, I appreciate the tips. You are right about the Paris, pretty tight quarters. As it turns out we hung out at Caesars and had one of the most amazing weekends(from a win-loss)standpoint, I have ever had (too bad I was only betting 25-50 per game). It got to the point that we were laughing about how lucky I was getting that someone suggested I play a CFL game. Now knowing absolutely NOTHING about the CFL, I promptly put $50 on the Edmonton\Toronto game to go under 48 (my only analysis was that I figured there might be some cold weather or whatever...)

Sure enough it was a winner.

I actually got home from Vegas with my plane ticket and hotel room paid for and some $$$ left over.
