STINGäS BUZZ BIN
AND THE AWARD GOES TO...... (September 15, 1999)
I suppose it's that time again when we look at all those wonderful advertisements that offshore books place in such publications as Pro Football Weekly and College and Pro Football News Weekly. If you thought Pro Football Weekly was bad when it came to advertising just about anyone with a pulse, the later mentioned publication is even WORSE. College and Pro Football News Weekly (CPFN) was the same publication that featured noted scam book 21st Century in just about every edition last season, and now, as if that were not bad enough, they feature not ONE, but THREE of the same black and white advertisements for Paramount Sports, who seemingly picked up where 21st Century last left off. Thank you CPFN for looking out for your readers. NOT!!!!!
Anyway, here are the awards.....
THE "I'VE FALLEN BUT I HAVE NO PROBLEM GETTING BACK UP" AWARD goes to....
Prime Time Sports. According to the IR Department at SBET (also known as Sports International), all customer accounts were turned over to Gary Neuman who they claimed had time to run off with all of Sports International's computers from Canada (How did they get THERE?), and somehow managed to get them to Grenada where he has started this new book, Prime Time Sports. For a while, Neuman, the individual who is now said to be running Prime Time Sports, was indeed answering the phones for Sports International before vanishing into thin air. What a place to run off to? The same island where Sports International held the master license for all on-line sportsbooks and casinos.
Prime Time advertises in Pro Football Weekly. They also offer 20% cash bonuses and 10% referrals which I suppose is possible considering they must have saved a bundle on overhead (i.e. computers).
THE WORLD WIDE TELESPORT AWARD FOR BEST INSURANCE POLICY goes to....
WWTS is a book I truly believe does insure its clients accounts for up to $100,000 through Lloyds of London. After all, they have the solid backing to do so. But what about First Fidelity Deposit Trust? They claim to have been around since 1991 (which appears to be a popular year considering 21st century claimed the same thing). Your accounts are insured by THEM through Lloyds of London? I don't know about that one. This place even has gone out of their way to make themselves sound like they are running a bank.
Edgecasino.com comes in a close second, although in their advertisement, the print related to this Lloyds of London claim is quite difficult to see.
BEST NEW SUCKER OFFER......
This one goes to Jaguar Sports who make the claim to be the only sportsbook that offers FREE credit. "Open your account with $1000 or more, and Jaguar's new Creditline will match your deposit with another $1000. Your new opening balance? $2000." They will match all opening deposits from a minimum of $1000 to a maximum of $50,000. So if you deposit $50,000, you have in actuality deposited $100,000. Now go out and buy that dream house you've always wanted....As a valued client of Jaguar's, you deserve it! And you think WWTS insurance policy is the best? Jaguar client accounts are secured in TRUST, which sure tells me a hell of a lot. Their three team parlays also pay 15:1. In other words if you lay $10.00, you can win $150.00. The advertisement appears in this past week's addition of Pro Football Weekly. Sadly there will be hundreds who fall for this blatantly deceptive sportsbook.
BEST WAY TO BURY YOUR COMPETITION.....
This award goes to English Sports Betting (no stranger when it comes to attempting to bury the competition). Their ad in College and Pro Football News Weekly features a tombstone (Rest in Peace) with Easy Bets name scrolled across it. Last I heard, Easy Bets was alive and kicking in both the Dominican Republic and Ireland. Obviously, *** must have been referring to EZ-Bet, a small sportsbook operation based out of the Dominican Republic, whose owner was jailed and forced out of the country before he ultimately shut down operations. As a side note it's always pleasing to see Jim McMahon (*** spokesperson) standing in front of a tombstone with a football in his hand.
BEST PHONE OPERATORS......
This one would have to go to Rio International, who have included a nifty little brochure with this week's edition of CPFN. We would have to guess their phone clerks come to work dressed in bikinis....well, at least one does. She appears in the ad holding up one breast and stating "I know what you want....." She explains further the Rio advantage: "Juicy payouts, hottest bonuses, and the friendliest customer service....Call me at Rio....I'll be waiting." Forget ABC Islands having the best teasers! Now what happens when a bunch of sexually deprived guys call Rio to open an account as a way to speak with this woman-in-waiting and some guy named BOB answers the phone? Maybe I have too much of an active imagination but surely someone out there in Advertising Land must think that this female pictured on the ad leading us on will help to open sportsbook accounts.
BEST SUITED PHONE CLERKS......
These are the one's who appear in an ad for Edgecasino.com. Let me guess, the male seen wearing the tie and a head mike is in actuality "Wild Horses"? Here's another casino and sportsbook that claims to have accounts insured by Lloyds of London, but they also have an Administrative contact whose name appears on Internic as "Wild Horses" with an email address listed as "no.valid.email@WORLDNIC.NET". Oh yeah!!!! I trust these guys!!!!
First off, most sportsbooks have their phone operators using real telephones. Second, most do not wear long sleeve shirts and ties (very hot in Central America and the Caribbean). Third, the ad features a mouse scrolling the computer screen, so what exactly is the point of featuring phone operators if you are purporting to sell your business as an on-line operation? Of course the mouse won't move since it's pad is covered with 10's, 20's and 50 dollar bills. "Get the Edge!" proclaims the ad. Why not just throw me OFF THE EDGE....of a very tall cliff? I stand about the same chance of survival as I would getting paid playing with a book run by a man calling himself Wild Horses.
THE AWARD FOR BEST PLACE TO POINT A WOMAN'S BREASTS goes to.....
SBG Global gets this one. Their ads have been rather non-eventful up until this point. Now someone in Marketing has come up with a brilliant idea: "Sex Sells!" And it does. I'll be opening an account next week (well, maybe not) now that they feature a sexy presumably Costa Rican bikini-clad female leaning up against a rock with her breasts protruding ever so graciously towards the red-bolded lettering "50% Bonus". Let me guess....10% added to deposit; free sports pager; referral bonuses; AND WE GET THE WOMAN! If only life were that easy. The original SDB Global was top notch. I'm yet to hear a bad word uttered about this supposed spinoff operation either, but a 50% bonus is really pushing things.
BEST TEASER WITHOUT A WOMAN PRESENT.....
ABC Islands gives whole new meaning to the phrase "Use your imagination". Their ads feature the slogan "Tease Me Baby" without showing the body of the woman who is leading us on. This tactic is employed so that we can focus in on their numbers, whereby they DO have the best teaser and parlay odds in the business (just don't tell that to Jaguar Sports with their 15:1 three team parlay odds). A little subliminal advertising? Yes. By far this fine book has some of the best full page color ads appearing today.
BEST PAGE HOGS.....
This one goes to WHICH NASA? NASA Sports International, whom we believe is the "good" NASA as opposed to the "bad" NASA that is reportedly slow paying. They spare no expense when it comes to an advertising budget. They lose points for getting rid of last year's sexy models and replacing them with two rival football players who would be better off appearing in an advertisement for steroids.....that is if they were legal. NASA Sports International also features a disclaimer under their ads stating that they are in no way associated with other businesses having similar names that might appear in the publication. Nevertheless, we are still confused.
BEST FLYING FAIRY FOOTBALL PLAYER....
This one goes to Crown Intertel Sports and, yes the football player they have pictured in the ad looks like Prince Charles performing in the Nutcracker Suite holding what appears to be a giant acorn. The "football" uniform looks more like a cape! And as if that were not bad enough, this establishment's registration address in Costa Rica is listed as a HOSPITAL!
The runner up in this category was Nevis-based Rosie's Chalk Island. The football player in their advertisement appears to have angel's wings...but a mighty BIG hand I must add. And just what exactly is up with this coupon trend? A number of ads feature cutout coupons to receive your 10% bonus. Whatever happened to just adding it on the computer when you open the account?
BEST FLYING FAIRY FOOTBALL PLAYERS (Group Performance)
Olympic Sports, the popular Jamaica-based book that has recently gone on-line, offers an advertisement featuring six football players in various poses dancing and leaping around the rings of Saturn. Watch out for JUPITER Number 24!!!!
And finally, the award for MOST EYE-CATCHING SCAM.....
This one of course goes out to Paramount Sports, who somehow manage to have enough money to place a full page black and white print ad in Pro Football Weekly's preview edition and yes, THREE (count 'em) - THREE full page ads in College and Pro Football News Weekly. All the money in the world for advertising BUT nothing left to pay their clients. Beware of Sportsbooks that feature "Immediate cash or check payouts!" as number 7 in their Top 10 Reasons to Open an Account with their operation! When a book lists its 1-800 number as a Marketing Office, there is further reason to be concerned. Licensed and BONDED in Trinidad???? You might as well just kiss your money "Bye Bye", Trinidad does NOT permit offshore gambling operations. Furthermore we have Tom Somach of the Las Vegas Sporting News claiming that a former employee of that paper is now running Paramount Sports out of Allentown, PA. All this combined with a number of other variables makes Paramount the winner by a landslide in this particular category.
**************
A word of warning regarding another book that is advertising in this week's College and Pro Football News Weekly. These guys are calling themselves Players Superbook and all indications are that this operation is in no way related to the reputable sportsbook, Players Only. Every now and again a sportsbook comes along using a similar name as that of an already established sportsbook. Global Sports Network (now Betmaker.com probably for this very same reason) and Action Sports Wagering out of St. Marteen have both been victims of this apparent scam. And while Carib and Caribi may be two of the more classiest outfits offshore, Caribbean Sports is NOT. It may be difficult to get these other operations to change their names, especially when the word "Caribbean" is not exactly registered to any one party. Our most notable case, however, is the two NASA's, often referred to as the "good" NASA and the "bad" NASA. Many have questioned the "good" NASA asking why they just don't change their name, or better yet, get the other NASA to change their name. Problem with that argument is that neither operation has a right to this name NASA and their could be a day when BOTH are forced to change their name to something else, all depending on just how far the US government is willing to go in their fight against offshore sportsbooks.

With last week's article regarding FREE information sites, I neglected to mention another site I am quite familiar with. This was pointed out to me by the site's owner, who was kind enough to submit a summary of her sports site at MYFREEWORLD.com:
"Myfreeworld.com is operated by myself, Erin Gibson, a female, 34, residing in Texas. We have been supplying free selections and handicapping tips to the net public for over a year and a half now. I am a professional sports bettor and my partner is also one. And this started of as our hobby. We have always supplied picks for free and have recruited many free handicappers over the months. Last year, we carried, on our site, a total of eight cappers who were hobbyists and very diligent about their work. It seemed to have worked as we averaged 400,000 page views last football season. This year, we have back John P. Mays and Feby Head for football and, of course, myself for NFL and NCAAF. Actually, I cover all the sports, except hockey which is covered by my knowledgeable partner, and any additional selections are from cappers who join us for the season. Let's take John P. Mays. He is a classic example of a myfreeworld capper. He works for the DOJ in the daytime and since last year has devoted a lot of energy in learning handicapping. The reason his page is so popular is because of his honesty in explaining to his visitors when he not sure of aspects of his research etc. Feby Head is a pure capper. We have him all year for soccer and all season for NFL. His soccer picks are legendary and he is timely and easy to read with a strong cult following. When basketball starts we get a strong slew of cappers on board. All free of course and with good insights and analysis. We are free because we decided, a long time ago, to rely on the advertising model for our revenue. After all, we now run myfreeworld.com as a business. Unfortunately, ad agencies shy away from "gambling related" sites and we have not been able to carry anything but casino and sportsbook advertising. This is fine with us. This year people will notice that we are carrying a "pay capper" with us. TJM Sports, we found, is an honest service and we researched them for a while and insisted that their free picks on our site include complete analysis and no huckstering or false promises or promotion. And if you visit their site you will see the honest, subdued nature of their business. They provide us with excellent free picks and analysis. As a matter of fact their free picks in football are 4-0 this year at BigGuySports. Speaking of BigGuy, we have been monitored by them since the tail end of last season and have a solid NBA record and a positive NHL and NCAAF record. We are, however, lagging in MLB. But we make no bones about this and always invite our visitors to inspect our records there. This year we have decided to experiment with pay services and launched a service called "PODIUM prediction services". The picks cost $5 each or $50 for three picks a week through the season. A visitor to the site will see, NO guarantees and NO "inside information" type claims. Just good, honest, solid and reliable "hard work" handicapping. However, the theme and purpose of the site is to always remain free and to provide interesting links to other sites that can aid in handicapping. We try to provide all the tools that you will need to make a calculated handicapping decision. As such, our site is always evolving and our email list is growing. We have a forum and we look for it to be busy this year. In short, I work on the site 7-9 hours a day, always looking for interesting stuff to give my visitors and we are always accessible and respond to emails promptly. We consider no-one our competition and last year carried, not only our forum, but links to all other popular forums. Anything to make the visitor better informed. Our "hit" count suggests we are popular, maybe not the SportsNetwork, but still, a strong following. Speaking of which, we have been contributors to TSN for over a year now and you will see our free picks there again this season. (1-0 CFB so far this year--FREE!). I hope you know us a little better now."

Sting included in the posting, a negative mention of 1)The Jaguar Matching Credit offer and 2)The 2 and 3 team Lay 6 SuperParlay wagers, as advertised in Pro Football Weekly, that pays 6:1 and 15:1 respectively. I will completely detail the terms of both offers since there was either a misunderstanding on Sting's part and/ or the lack of adequate explanation on Jaguar's part.
1) Two and three team Lay 6 SuperParlays paying 6:1 and 15:1 respectively. This proposition is actually the reverse of a standard teaser, and in fact initially called it a "reverse teaser" . The player assumes the burden of laying an additional six points on his side and total wagers instead of getting the advantage of an extra six points. This is an advantageous play when the bettor has a selection that he believes may cover the side or totalspread by an extra six points. At 6:1 and 15:1, respectively for two and three teamers, this represents a 250% advantage over the standard parlay odds of 13:5 and 6:1. Additionaly, (and as far as we know), Jaguar offers the highest standard parlay odds in the industry at 14/5, 6:5/1, and 13/1 for 2,3 and 4 teamers.
2) Jaguar Matching Credit: Jaguar will match any deposit balance from the minimum of $1000 to a maximum of $50000, in even multiples of $1000, thus doubling the total available wagering dollars. The bettor then makes ten plays at one time, each one at 10% of his combined deposit and credit balance. Using a matched deposit balance of $1000, that equals ten plays of $200 each (or $2200 in total including the juice). The entire ten wagers are graded and posted when all the games are completed. No matter what the results are, the maximum amount that can be lost is the players $1000 deposit. The player is not required to pay back any losses exceeding his own deposit, which will occur starting at the point his game results are 2 and 8 or worse. He can go 0 and 10 on 10 $200 wagers and still only lose $1000. This of course significantly reduces Jaguars overall hold percentage. However the increased volume and customer acceptance makes it a worth while offer. On the other hand the player can win and collect the full value of his wagers, his best scenario being 10 and 0 for a win of $2000. The net result is that there is a limit on losses and no limit on wins. Jaguar has a number of players that regularly enjoy his offer. They feel it gives them the oportunity to have extra action and an increased overall potential win on many games without having to deposit additional funds should their early wagers lose. The wagering disadvantage is that the player will lose twice as much when he has game results anywhere from 5 and 5, to 3 and 7 since his bets are doubled. For new accounts, Jaguars 10% bonus can be included as part of their deposit for matching credit play. For example, a new player needs to put up only $900 to get 10 $200 plays.
Thank you for allowing Jaguar Sports International the opportunity to clarify these two popular offerings.

Sting you wrote:

What better place to have an establishment after you get the crap beat out of you for not paying up.
Austin, doing a quick calculation of your "reverse teaser", 6-1 for 2 teams and 15-1 for 3 teams is a terrible bet for the bettor.
If you were to bet action points, each point a team beats the spread would be worth -110. So laying 6 points should yield about 9-2 odds with action points or 5-1 with true odds. The true odds on 2 teams laying 6 points therefore is 35-1 and 3 teams is 124-1. This is a monster hold on your part, or maybe I'm missing something.
In the meantime why not tell the bettors here more about your business if you want them to sign up. eg. how long have you been in business? What is the background of the individuals in the company? What referrals do you have? etc.

This communication covers several subjects that were recently posted about Jaguar Sports
International in this forum.
Hartley speculated about the true odds of
Jaguars two team lay 6 SuperParlay proposition versus Jaguars actual payout odds
of 6:1. Without going into the mathematics
involved, the overall theoretical probability
calculates at modestly above 6:1. Actual
wagering success however will vary, depending
not only on ones handicapping skill, but also
on the selection and mix of totals, sides,
college and pro. Historical game results also
come fairly close to 6:1. Jaguar customers
playing this proposition have seen an overall
result of 1 winner for every 5.75 wagers,
resulting in a small loss to the house.
Jaguar customers like this play when they
believe they have two particularly strong
selections on sides or totals with blowout
potential.
After reading the full write-up on Jaguar's
matching credit offer, Sting suggested that
Jaguar's print advertising of the offer was
a little misleading. It is not our intention
(nor is it good business) to mislead a poten-
tial customer. We pay attention to all feedback and will therefore review the copy
on this particular advertisement.
Hartley asked for some information about
Jaguar. The company direction is to "change
sports wagering for the bettor". We attempt
to live up to that slogan with programs such
as the previously discussed matching credit
offer and the lay Six SuperParlay proposition, along with the highest parlay
odds in the industry(14/5;6.5;1.and 13:1 for
2,3and4 teamers for example),and competitive
2 team teaser prices (100/110;100/115;100/120
). We have a popular and unique travel awards
program and try to consistently treat every
customer like a VIP. It is a highly competi-
tive industry and Jaguar hopes to attract
and maintain a growing and loyal clientele
with a combination of fair play, financial
reliability, unique incentives, and efficient
friendly service. For furthur information, you may reach us at 1-888-5-JAGUAR
(1-888-552-4827).

Reno, McMahon and Atiyeh have known one another for a very long time. Don't forget, Atiyeh was a star football player for the University of Pittsburgh back in the 80's. His one brother played a year with the Eagles and his older brother Joey won the gold medal for wrestling (won it for Syria). One would think they could do better than Jim McMahon!

Austin (or anybody) please explain the mathematics of the reverse teaser. I'm very curious.
How does 2 teams with 6 points layed against the spread for each team convert to about 6-1?
Also Austin you still haven't mentioned the history of the company and there is nothing on the website to explain this. How long have you been in business?
I'm not trying to be confrontational, I'm just trying to get important info. for bettors here.
