  • Olympic Dispute Resloved in Player's Favor

Last Saturday I bet on several breeder cup races as I do every year. Olympic allows you do place bets using track (paramutual) odds as well as their own proposition bets. I placed a proposition bet which was Will Johar win the Breeders cup turf? It was +1500. I wagered $100 to win $1500. Well the race went and Johar won actually two horses won it was a dead heat which means there are two winners- the first time in 25 years and in breeder cup history. Olympic decides to only pay me $750 or 1/2 of my bet and tells me thats what the track pays. The problem with that argument is that I did not bet into a paramutual, I bet a propositon bet and i Won. Of course a parmutual is going to reduce the odds of the winning horses because there is a pool of money the house takes their share and the rest is split with the winners. The difference is that the track does not make money by paying lesser odds - simply more people get paid less. Another thing if you bet track odds and your horse gets scratched you get your money back, but not if you bet a proposition bet they keep your money because its an entirely different bet. The way the track handled the payouts is far different then Olympic -Olympic is trying to keep half of my proposition bet but this is not a paramutual the only people that gain is Olympic and their greed. They don't want to follow track rules if a horse is scratched but want to follow them when it benefits them. So Olympic wants to have their cake and eat it too. The situation is really simple this case has nothing to do with track odds I made a propostion bet and my horse won along with another horse. The right thing for Olympic to is pay both winning propositions. I won the bet I want to get paid the full amount. The ironoy is I had to sweat the race and contrary to Olympics motto now I'm sweating the payment. I'm requesting bettorsworld intervene

    Hello,
A wager on a BC race is a future, since there was a DH, prices are split by the # of winning wagers, so the price you received is correct

      Chris,
I'm painfully aware of Olympic's opinion. I wasted several hours trying to get ahold of Roy at Olympic. The reason I'm posting here is that I don't agree with your opinion and it's not in the rule book and I'm looking for other opinions. The fact is this - I bet a fixed odds bet whether it was a proposition or a future it was at+1500 and it was not a paramutual so it does not adjust. It's a breeder's cup fact that Johar won the Breeders cup turf - its a dead heat but it's still a win. So the bet was will Johar win the Breeder cup turf - he did - - so please pay me - thank you

The Future odds move all the time, U can check any disclaimer, check the Futures on the Heisman Trophy etc

          Chris,

As far as future odds moving - of course they do - all lines move - my point is once you make the bet the line is fixed at +1500 and not like a typical horse racing wager at the track where the odds continually move and you don't know what your going to get. And concerning the heisman disclaimer there was no such disclamer on the breeder cups futures. If there was I would not be here. If you don't want this problem in the future maybe you should put that up next year. I suspect the reason you did not put it up because a dead heat has never happened and you never had to worry about it. However I would think you would make enought money from your futures seeing you list about 50 horses for the classic and only 10 horses ran - so you kept all the profit on all those horses that never ran. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me even if you had to pay out two wagers once every 25 years.

            Chris,

In fact the disclaimer is not even up on your current future Odds to win the Australian Melbourne cup.

I have to say I find this quick response from Olympic rather amusing considering it took me several days and about 25 calls to get ahold of Roy at Olympic and now I post a message and Olympic responds in minutes. I love bettorsworld

                To Bettorsworld and Olympic:

I would think this info would clear things up. I was told by Roy at Olympic that Spiro said that if I find a place that would pay me -they will pay me. Well I decided to take Spiro up on the offer. I contacted Bally Race and Sport book in Las Vegas who by the way does the largest future bets for the breeders cup and spoke with John Avello the manager who puts up the breeder cup futures and asked him his policy - he said it was simple if you placed it on in a future bet - both horses win and get paid the full amount and if it was placed at the track you get track odds. Which is exactly what I have been telling Olympic. I think Spiro is a man of his word - I brought him proof and I'm assuming I will have my money this afternoon. The phone number for Ball'y is 1800 634-3434 in case anyone wants to verify this info.

I'd like to add something. I actually agree w/ both parties points here. It just goes to show no matter how good the rulles are written up, there will be times when something lands in a gray-area. The key is when it does, side w/ the long-term customer. It's ALWAYS best! Mac

                      Sord 1,

I bet High Chaparrel, the other horse, and received track odds. But, you are absolutely right. If you bet a future horse, you should receive full payment. As a matter of fact, Olympic should know better and pay you the correct amount. Hopefully, they'll make right and pay you the right amount.

p.s. Keep us informed, I would like to know what Olympic does. By the way, I have never had a problem with World Sports Exchange/PlayersOnly.

Here is an update. I wrote Sprio a letter and I was paid in full. As I told Spiro in the letter I have been a loyal customer at Olympic for many years and have referred many people. I have also publicly stated in this forum that they are the cream of the crop. I would have like to have received and certainely deserved better customer service then I received earlier - but in the end they got it right and that what matters most. This is the first time I ever had a problem with them and ultimately it was resolved in my favor. I will continue to use them and I always have. Bettorsworld please change title to Olympic dispute resloved.

On a side note I would have like to have heard from bettorsworld concerning this complaint. This is a great forum but I also like to think they are here to assist in disputes - I asked for there help and never heard a word from them.

Good to hear Olympic resolved this matter.

While you should have been paid in full in the first place already, without any difficulty at all.

Seems that there are less and less knowledgeable managers running betting shops nowadays. Future wagers for example are simple but the rules have to be posted in advance, and when posted cannot be changed post-facto (after the fact, i.e., after some bets are placed).

Vegas is still the best place for future wagers.

Hello, I just was re-reading this thread and came across the part where you had asked for help.

I would be happy to contact anybody on your behalf. I do a lot of the leg work for Jeff and Brian these days, and if you need me to contact someone, just drop me a note at Beth@Bettorsworld.com. I try to get in here and get into the forums as much as possible, but I don't always catch everything.

We're glad to hear the dispute was resolved to your satisfaction and your methods of getting this taken care of should be commended. You came in here, presented your case, were obviously annoyed and yet kept your cool and didn't start throwing obscenities around. Good job!

In a player dispute you will never get a fairer shake than from Spiro.
