The 4-1 Dallas Cowboys will head to Seattle to take on the Super Bowl Champion Seahawks in what will be the marquee NFL Game of the week on Sunday afternoon in a Game that kicks off at 4:25 pm est. The Seahawks are hefty -8 point favorites at sportsbook.ag with a total of 47.
It wouldn’t be a stretch to call this one of the biggest Games since 2009 for this storied Dallas fraNChise. It’s been a Cowboys team that been nothing more than mediocre since then. Pretenders. Yet here they are off to a 4-1 start with a chance to knock off the Super Bowl Champs. A win here would propel this team to contender status.
The hefty -8 point spread is understandable here. The Seahawks have lost just one Game since winning the Super Bowl last year and at home they are just about unbeatable having lost just oNCe in the last 20 home Games and winning those Games by an average margin of over two touchdowns. They have won close to 70% of their home Games since this stadium opened 2002 and many of those teams had no where near the talent of this current buNCh.
If you look the yards per point numbers for these two, you’ll find the Cowboys with a better defensive number, 18, to the Seahawks 15.3 while the Seahawks hold a slight edge offensively. But before we get too excited about those numbers that appear to favor Dallas, we have to consider who they have played thus far. The Seahawks had to deal with Green Bay, San Diego and Denver right out of the GAte, all three likely playoff teams while the Cowboys count the Titans, Rams and Saints among their wins (yes we includedthe Saints in Our group of BAD teams).
Our model has the Seahawks winning this Game comfortably and covering the -8 point spot. The model takes into ACCount who each team has played but it’s also important to stress that the model gets stronger and stronger as the season rolls along. There’s some room for error here only a few weeks into the season. This is worth mentioning because we’re going to go against the model here.
NFL football is much more mechanical than college ball. With college football, there are motivational edges GAlore, week in and week out. It’s rare to get a Game like that in the NFL, but this Game looks to be an exception. This one can really be a Game changer for the Cowboys and their fans. No better way to remove that “mediocre” label than by knocking off a power house like the Seahawks in their own building.
Can the Cowboys do it? We don’t rule it out. We’re going to go against Our own model here and while we’re not going to play this one on the moneyline, the feeling here is that the Cowboys cover the +8 and a straight up win, as shocking as that may be to some, is not out of the question.
