Alabama vs. Kent State and Ohio State vs. Akron Week 1 College Football Betting Predictions
There are some college football Games opening week where we have some sky high lines. These Games involve some of college footballs premiere teams, such as Alabama, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Stanford, Texas and Florida. Many of these Games have lines of -30 or more.
As a rule, we’ll never lay that big of a number on a football Game. Just a personal prefereNCe and strategy that we have stuck to for many years. In Our opinion, too many things can go wrong when laying big numbers, leaving a back door cover on the table in most cases.

But hey, that’s us. There are other professionals who won’t hesitate to lay big numbers and in many cases there is plenty of added iNCentive for the big fav. ReGArdless of what college football coaches may say, there is good reason for them to run up the Scoreon lesser teams, especially early in the year. The bottom line is simply that Ohio State beating Akron 49-0 looks much better to the pollsters than a 28-14 win in a Game in which Ohio State coasts and rests starters in the 2nd half.
With that in mind, let’s take a quick look at a few of these potential blowouts opening week.
Kent State vs. Alabama – Alabama can name their Scorehere and the betting public seems to be most aware of that fact out of all the big numbered Games. This line opened Alabama -33.5 and now sits at -37. Let’s face it, this is a mediocre MAC team, 5-7 a year ago, that, although they return 9 starters on offense, simply isn’t that talented and has never shown it can play with elite programs over the years.
Take a look at the results anytime Kent State stepped up in class over the last 5 years. All loses. 26-13 to a mediocre Boston College. 24-0 to Penn State. In 2009 they lost 34-7 to BC and again in 2008, 21-0. In 2007 Kentucky walloped them 56-20 as did Ohio State 48-3. Even Minnesota smashed them 44-0 in 2006.
We can’t lay the big number here but wouldn’t be surprised to see Alabama cover the -37.
Akron vs. Ohio State – Ohio State opened -31.5 and has climbed to -33.5. Basically the same situation as the Alabama Game. Yeah, Ohio State has some obstacles to overcome this year, but Akron won’t be one of them. Akron was 1-11 a year ago and just plain terrible. Like Kent State, they have never been able to compete with the big boys. Ohio State should be in a fowl mood after the off season they had and Akron might just be the perfect medicine.
That is just two of several high line Games in week 1. You’ll also fine these Games each and every week during the college football season. While you’ll never see a Key Release from us on Games like this, we don’t want to discOurage you from playing them if you feel strongly about a side. There is always added iNCentive for the quality teams to blow out teams like Akron and Kent State.
Hey, if you can get your bookmaker to take a parlay on the favorite and the over and the dog and under in these high lined Games, fire away. You’ll make a killing. That ship has sailed for the most part, but there still may be some locals out there without a clue : )
Good luck in week 1!
