GLOBAL SPORTS CORPORATION PURCHASES GOLDMEDAL AND 7PALMS CASINOS & SPORTSBOOKS
· The Isle of Man company best known for its subsidiary betzone.com positions itself to become global leader in online gambling
Douglas, Isle of Man, March 7, 2001—Global Sports Corporation Ltd. (GSC) has finalised its purchase of the Internet and telephone bookmaker and casino operations GoldMedalSports.com and 7palms.com.
According to GSC’s CEO Herd Rogers, “This is a very exciting time for our company. This acquisition brings us one of the most experienced teams in the offshore gambling industry. We are working extremely hard to globalise our company and become one of the most recognised names in Internet gambling. This is a big step forward for us.”
GSC and betzone—which had previously focused efforts on Western European markets—currently has more than 14,000 registered users and offers its Web site and customer service in English, Spanish, Italian, French, German and Portuguese. betzone (http://www.betzone.com) is licensed in the Isle of Man, where Global Sports Corporation is headquartered.
Gold Medal and 7Palms have a combined 17,000 registered users and are licensed by the government of Curaçao, in the Netherlands Antilles.
GSC plans to allow each of its brands to maintain its own identity. “This was a deciding factor for us to join the GSC team,” noted Mike Foreman, marketing director for both Gold Medal and 7Palms. “We strongly believe in marketing different brands, with different product offerings and unique marketing strategies. GSC has the same philosophy. It’s a perfect fit.”
The group has already given new looks to Gold Medal and 7Palms and just launched new download casinos for each site.
This could be the first of many acquisitions and continued growth for GSC. “Consolidation within our industry enables us to offer better products and services to more customers. There are more than 1,000 Internet gambling companies operating right now and the key will be to allow them to maintain and extend their own brands while providing them the use of group technical and marketing resources,” noted Rogers.
