  • A question of strategy?

First, this post most likely belongs in the other forum, but for some reason it is not showing up on my screen.

As the old rule goes, play over and favorites early in the week and play dogs and under late, this is because the public loves playing favs and over so the theory goes. With the way books work now, is this still a valid theory. From what I've read most books don't move the line an inch unless the DB books move, reguardless of how much action they get on a game. With this being the way it seems to be, the public not having much of an effect on the line, does this old rule make sense anymore?

Still true. Squares love getting down late. You can really see it at a shop like Intertops, which really loves to gouge the squareballs. If you want a dog or an under, wait as late as your stomach can stand it before you get down.

Squares like to bet late, usually at the worst number available. For example, while I was laying Cleveland -150 this morning, they were laying Cleveland -170 near post time. I try to tell squares that if you ain't been to the wedding, don't go to the funeral. But they just don't listen. Between following rip-off touts and betting into the worst possible betting lines, these guys have got it rough. I feel so bad for 'em that I'm gonna have Father Guido say a prayer for 'em and I'm gonna make a contribution to Slam Dunk's Save the Squares Foundation. Hell, I used to contribute to Save the Whales, but I now believe it more important for us to protect the sportbetting environment by contributing to Save the Squares.

Reno, I laid 150 also this morning and won. Did you hold it for the win or scalp it back on Oakland?

Sportshobby, I scalped the entire thing, leaving all the money on the dog. I made zilcho on the game.

            reno

but aintcha just making things harder for yourself by converting squares to sharps or half sharps (rhomboids i think av2 coined 'em)

i saw the light and got converted from squaredom to rhomboidianity -- thanks to bettorsworld, esp. posts such as your 'not Disneyland' series

so now instead of laying -170 to help you get +160 i'm competing with you for the original -150! and you only got yerself to blame!

Fred, as a former left-wing Commie radical who always pinned Che Guevara and Mao Tse Tung buttons on his Nehru shirts and bell bottoms, I'm still imbued with an indelible residue of socialistic thinking. Consequently, I can't help myself from educating squares in this forum, even if it ultimately reduces my piece of the sportsbetting pie. I'd write more on the subject of spreading the wealth around, but I've got to leave now to go make a generous cash donation to Slam Dunk's Save the Squares Foundation.

my book's lines always seem to drop from early to late(except pedro and clemens)-does this go against the norm!?based on what ya'll say, favorites usually rise as the day goes on- i haven't found that to be the case
                      ALSO---WHAT IS A "SQUARE" , A "SHARP", AND A "WHALE"???? THANKS

A SQUARE is a 4 equal sided object in which two sides run parallel to each other and perpindicular to the other set.

A SHARP is a form of Cheddar Cheese with a pungent taste (yummy!).

A WHALE is a large mammal that lives in the sea. It breathes air, bears live young, has front limbs that have been modified into flippers and a flat, horizontal tail. They eat bad lines for breakfast.

                            kingtut

                            my understanding (so far)

a 'square' is an average bettor who generally bets favourites without regard to the price -- "i'm getting -220 but it's -200 somewhere else but what the hey - a favourite should win anyway, else why are they favoured"
a square got bad money management (bail out, must win, double-down death wish)
sqaures have few books (maybe only one)
did you mean "my book's lines always seem to..." or
my books' lines always seem to...."

squares bet at places like Centrebet
                            squares lose

sharps bet only good numbers, can pass and wait for good numbers tommorow, or later, if necessary
sharps have many books (maybe 30+)
                            sharps win

a whale is a big player e.g. Kerry Packer
i'm not sure if all whales are sqaure?

most punters (everyone?) starts out square -- i sure did
my first bet was a one day cricket game, NSW to win $1.35 but i saw another book had them $1.45. I only had the one book so bet it anyway. It won, "how easy is this!" methought.

i was sqaure, but having completed a diploma of sportsbetting at the university of bettorsworld i'm confident in declaring my self rhomboid

for any who wish to leave the depraved state of squaredom and redeem their sportsbetting soul i recommend reading the archives here (there and everywhere). read read read think think think calculate calculate calculate observe observe observe (line movement) wait wait wait (for value) learn learn learn (from mistakes)

                            anyhow that's my 2c

                            good luck

Kingtut/how did you score a perfect 13 on the self test? Sportsbank had to help.

Mr.Green/Why would anyone want to play a total over early in the week? Rain,Snow,Wind,Injuries. You are giving the BM a free shot at you laying juice. Not good.
