Big 12 Basketball Conference Tournament Preview - The Big 12 Conference is unusually strong in basketball this year. They have two teams vying for a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and seven teams with at least 20 wins. Two teams from the conference were ranked #1 at one point in 2010, and a third was a member of the Top 5. The Big 12 Tournament will have large ramifications on the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
WAC Tournament Preview - The Western Athletic Conference Tournament will allow one of nine teams to gain automatic entry to the NCAA Tournament. Hawaii has the most championships among active WAC members at 3. Last year’s tournament was won by Utah State for the first time. The Aggies look poised for another victory this year as the top seed.
C-USA Tournament Preview Predictions Odds - For the last several years Conference USA has consisted of Memphis and then 11 other teams, but for the first time in a while Memphis did not win the Conference regular season title. That honor went to a UTEP team that finished the year 24-5 (15-1). It looks like this conference is in a position to get multiple teams into the Big Dance which is something they have not been accustomed to over the past several years.

Big East Tournament Preview - Current Odds - There is little to discuss when you talk about the best conference in College Basketball in the 2009-2010 season. The Big East is very good from top to bottom, which they have showed all season long with teams like Syracuse, Villanova, and West Virginia, which should make for the most competitive conference tournament in the NCAA.
Big 10 Tournament Preview and Picks - The Big 10 conference is undergoing a sports renaissance. They were great in Bowl games during college football, and they looked stacked for the rapidly arriving NCAA Tournament of college basketball. The Big 10 Tournament should give us an idea of where the best teams in the conference stack up before the Big Dance.
March 5, 2010
Sun Belt Conference Basketball Tournament Preview - It’s the month of March which means March Madness is finally upon us, but before we get to the NCAA Tournament we must crown a champion in each conference, and this Sun Belt Tournament should prove to be one of the most competitive conference championships out there. Three teams were tied at the end of the year for the regular season title which just shows you how competitive this tournament should be.
Oscars Odds - Bet on the Academy Awards - James Cameron may be dreaming of another king of the world speech at the Academy Awards this Sunday, but the Avatar director faces being usurped from the throne – by his ex-wife.
March 4, 2010
West Coast Conference Tournament - Current Odds and Preview - There have been two consistent events throughout the last decade in college basketball. The month of March is when College Basketball really starts to show its Madness, and Gonzaga is once again the regular season West Coast Conference Champs. Gonzaga just finished off their 10th consecutive WCC regular season title, and now have their sights set on winning the Conference Tournament to build up momentum for the NCAA Tournament.
March 3, 2010
MAAC Tournament Preview - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Basketball Tournament may not rank with the ACC Tournament or Big East Tournament as “must see” television, but it is very important. The winner of the tournament will have a coveted bid to the Big Dance. Several teams are in with a shot. The most likely winners include Siena, Fairfield, Iona, St. Peters, Rider, and Niagara.

2010 MLB Futures Wagers - The New York Yankees are perennial favorites to capture the American League pennant and after winning the World Series last season, it’s no surprise that they are once again favored to capture the pennant again in 2010. However, the Yanks will have a big distraction this season. As it stands, star shortstop Derek Jeter is going into the final year of his deal with the Pinstripes and you can bet it will continue to be a distraction until the situation is resolved.

Villanova at Syracuse - The best game of the weekend pits Big East heavyweights Villanova against Syracuse. Both teams are in the top 10 and have a very good chance to make some noise in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Villanova started the year 20-1, but has since lost 3 of their last 6 bring their overall record to 23-4. They were last seen beating up on an overmatched but South Florida team. Syracuse is rolling through the Big East with a record of 26-2 behind the guidance of the legendary Jim Boeheim.
Kentucky at Tennessee - Fans of the Kentucky Wildcats are some of the most intense in all of sports. Nothing less than a win is acceptable. The past few years have been rough for the program, but Coach Calipari has restored them to their former glory thus far in 2010. His team boasts a record of 26-1 and a national ranking of #2. They will play the Tennessee Volunteers for the second time this year at 12 PM EST on CBS.
Kansas at Oklahoma State - The Kansas Jayhawks are the #1 team in the country. Being the best has its perks, but it also has its downfalls. They are going to get every team’s best game as they will find out Saturday at 4 PM EST when they will take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys on CBS. The last tough game that Kansas played was against Texas A&M, but they could find themselves in a tussle with a tough Cowboys squad.
Texas at Texas AM - It’s been a long fall for the Texas Longhorns who were #1 in the country and 17-0 at one point in this season. Their last victory as an undefeated team came against Texas A&M who they will play again this Saturday at 2 PM EST on ESPN. The Longhorns dropped 6 of their next 9 after beating Texas A&M in OT. They are currently on a two game win streak.

College Hoops Scratch Sheet for Wednesday - Often times, with these big cards, there just isn't enough time to pump out a write up on one of the games. Such is the case today with a good sized Wednesday card. So, we thought some of you might find it interesting if we posted our scratch sheet.

Virginia at Miami - Using Schedule Strength to Handicap Hoops - One of the things we like to do with these articles is give you a little insight into the way we approach basketball handicapping. One of the things you see us refer to in these articles is schedule strength. While this game we are going to look at today is not an official play (we'll explain why) it is a great example of the role of schedule strength in college hoops handicapping.
February 22, 2010
UCONN on the Bubble Hosting West Virginia - Perhaps no conference in the nation illustrates the rigors of college hoops better than the Big East. Within that conference, perhaps no team illustrates just how thin the margin is between success and failure, than the UCONN Huskies. In the Big East, there are 16 teams. More than half of those teams can play with any team in the Nation.

Horse Racing Picks - Saturday - College hoops is in full swing but right on the horizon is the Kentucky Derby and all the prep races that go along with it. Our horse racing expert takes a look at some Saturday races to wet your appetite. Have a look.
Hoops Picks for Friday - Harvard and William Mary were close to being official plays on the oddswiz service but it's a pass. Mark them down as opinions only.
February 18, 2010
Wisconsin at Minnesota - a no brainer - Wisconsin is on the road tonight to take on Minnesota and you have to like this spot for the Badgers. Wisconsin lost their high scorer, 6 foot 10 Jon Leuer 9 games ago yet still managed to go 6-3 without him and maintained their position as one of the top teams in the country and still remains in the hunt for the Big 10 title as we head down the stretch, with a favorable schedule to boot.

Fairfield at Manhattan - There's at least one team in Connecticut with some post season hopes this year, and it's not the UCONN Huskies. It's the Fairfield Stags. Unfortunately, for Fairfield, at 17-8 on the year and 10-5 in conference, this years MAAC Conference Tournament is at Siena.
February 12, 2010
Harvard at Yale - Hoops Rivalry - Harvard was rolling along having one of it's best years ever until it ran into fellow Ivy League buzz-saw Cornell at the end of January and suffered a 36 point set back. They followed that game up with a loss at home to Princeton. Harvard now finds themselves in 3rd place in the Ivy League and in a situation where they can't afford another loss.

Weekend Hoops Betting Preview - There is still a little more than a month of college basketball to be played before Selection Sunday, but the talk of Bubble” teams and tournament seeds is starting to heat up as we hit the most exciting part of the NCAA hoops schedule.
February 10, 2010
Duke at North Carolina - One of the biggest rivalries in college hoops resumes tonight as Duke visits the North Carolina Tar Heels for a big ACC conference affair. Certainly this matchup lacks some luster, when compared to years past, mainly because of the Tar Heels current slide and 13-10 record. Very un-Tar Heel like you might say. But this game isn't without it's sub plots and drama. Let's take a look.
February 9, 2010
Illinois at Wisconsin - Big 10 Hoops Battle - We'll take a look at one of the marquee games on the card tonight, Illinois at Wisconsin. The Big 10 race is still wide open with any one of 5 teams still in position to take the crown, including these two teams that will hook up tonight in Wisconsin. Wisconsin is ranked 11th in the Nation at 18-5 overall and 8-3 in the Big 10 while Illinois is 8-3 in conference and 16-8 overall.

ESPN Big Monday Double Header - Hopefully everyone enjoyed the Super Bowl and more importantly, we hope you had the right side whether it was the Saints, the Under, or one of the 100's of prop bets available. We know many of you will be going thru football withdrawals, but snap out of it. The end of the football season brings in what truly is one of the most exciting times of year as we're right in the heart of the college hoops schedule with all of the important conference games, followed by the conference tournaments and finally, March Madness.
February 5, 2010
Weber State at Montana - Weber has held the upper hand in this series recently having won 6 straight and 7 of the last 8 including a win at home on January 2, 64-56. The two games that Montana has won since 2006 were by 6 and 4 points, both of those games at home.
February 4, 2010
Super Bowl 44 Prediction and Analysis - The Super Bowl used to be an easy game to handicap. There was generally a dominant conference, and that carried over into the game. Look back over the last 43 years and you'll find many blow out games, particularly in the 80's and 90's. You'll find scores like 52-10, 49-26, 52-17 and so on. Looking back, as a bettor, it was really a time of easy money.
February 3, 2010
Xavier at UMASS - Xavier heads north tonight to take on UMASS in an Atlantic 10 Game. As this is being written, money is coming in on UMASS taking this game from an opener of -9.5 down to -8. even -7.5 in some spots. That plays into our hands as we like Xavier here. The further this line drops, the better.
Pete Townsend Rocks Super Bowl - Sports Interaction, the first online sportsbook licensed and regulated in North America, takes bets every year on what the first song of the half-time act will be, as part of the hundreds of bet types they offer on the biggest game of the year. Legendary ’sixties band The Who are doing the half-time show at Super Bowl XLIV, and Sports Interaction had set odds on what their first song would be, with the 1971 classic Won’t Get Fooled Again among the favorites.
Super Bowl Prop Bets - Super Bowl betting goes way beyond the simple pointspread proposition we are all familiar with. In fact betting on the outcome of the game itself has become secondary in recent years with all of the creative prop bets being offered by the leading inline sportsbooks.

February 2, 2010
Providence at Syracuse - CBB Play of the Day - For today we head up to Syracuse where the Orangemen take on Providence. This game has the potential to be an obliteration. Yes, the number is high at -15.5, but perhaps not high enough. Syracuse is arguably the best team in the country. They are certainly one of about 5 teams that should be the frontrunners come tourney time.
February 1, 2010
UCONN at Louisville - This game matches two teams that had much higher hopes. Both are now in serious jeopardy of making the NCAA tournament this year. In fact, short of winning the Big East tournament, it looks like these two will be headed to the NIT. It shows you how deep the Big East is though, as both squads are capable of playing with anyone in the country.
January 31, 2010
Penn State at Purdue - During football season we talk a lot about the distribution of talent. Specifically how certain teams will always be much better than others as a result of the talent they are able to recruit. Good football players want to attend schools known for their football. Well, same holds true for hoops. There are basketball schools and there are football schools.
January 30, 2010
Portland U at Santa Clara - CBB Play of the Day - For today's play we are going to go out west where Portland will be taking on Santa Clara on the road in a game that starts at 10pm est. Portland is 4-2 and in 3rd place in the West Coast Conference, behind Gonzaga and St Mary's and really can't afford to slip up from here on out. They still hold hopes of an NCAA bid, first by winning the conference and 2nd by hoping the WCC is a 3 bid conference.
January 29, 2010
Harvard at Columbia - Ah, Friday. Friday is like a vacation day for a hoops handicapper. It's "Ivy Night". A short card with only 8 college hoops games to look at as we prepare for the onslaught of Saturday. It's not uncommon to have to pass the entire card on Friday, but we did manage to find one game worth a look.
January 28, 2010
Wisconsin at Purdue - Wisconsin travels to Purdue to take on the Boilermakers tonight with Purdue looking for a little revenge for a loss at Wisconsin earlier in the year. Purdue entered that game 14-0 but ended up on the short end of a 73-66 score. That was also the start of a 3 game slide for Purdue, their only 3 losses of the year, as they dropped games to Ohio State and Northwestern. they have since rebounded with wins over Illinois and Michigan.
January 27, 2010
UCONN at Providence - College Hoops "Play of the Day" - The UCONN Huskies take the short trip to Providence tonight to take on the Friars in a Big East Game that's pivotal for the Huskies. UCONN is a good team, make no mistake about it. At this level, there's not much room for error. A short slump can ruin a season. UCONN at one point was ranked in the top 10 before the wheels fell off.

Super Bowl - Early Thoughts - While the dust clears from the AFC and NFC title games, we'll have two weeks to dig into the Super Bowl matchup between the Saints and the Colts, but in the meantime, I wanted to pass along some early thoughts about what we saw this weekend and what we might see in two weeks.
