February 8, 2010

ESPN Big Monday Double Header - Hopefully everyone enjoyed the Super Bowl and more importantly, we hope you had the right side whether it was the Saints, the Under, or one of the 100's of prop bets available. We know many of you will be going thru football withdrawals, but snap out of it. The end of the football season brings in what truly is one of the most exciting times of year as we're right in the heart of the college hoops schedule with all of the important conference games, followed by the conference tournaments and finally, March Madness.

February 5, 2010

Weber State at Montana - Weber has held the upper hand in this series recently having won 6 straight and 7 of the last 8 including a win at home on January 2, 64-56. The two games that Montana has won since 2006 were by 6 and 4 points, both of those games at home.

February 4, 2010

Super Bowl 44 Prediction and Analysis - The Super Bowl used to be an easy game to handicap. There was generally a dominant conference, and that carried over into the game. Look back over the last 43 years and you'll find many blow out games, particularly in the 80's and 90's. You'll find scores like 52-10, 49-26, 52-17 and so on. Looking back, as a bettor, it was really a time of easy money.

February 3, 2010

Xavier at UMASS - Xavier heads north tonight to take on UMASS in an Atlantic 10 Game. As this is being written, money is coming in on UMASS taking this game from an opener of -9.5 down to -8. even -7.5 in some spots. That plays into our hands as we like Xavier here. The further this line drops, the better.

Pete Townsend Rocks Super Bowl - Sports Interaction, the first online sportsbook licensed and regulated in North America, takes bets every year on what the first song of the half-time act will be, as part of the hundreds of bet types they offer on the biggest game of the year. Legendary ’sixties band The Who are doing the half-time show at Super Bowl XLIV, and Sports Interaction had set odds on what their first song would be, with the 1971 classic Won’t Get Fooled Again among the favorites.

Super Bowl Prop Bets - Super Bowl betting goes way beyond the simple pointspread proposition we are all familiar with. In fact betting on the outcome of the game itself has become secondary in recent years with all of the creative prop bets being offered by the leading inline sportsbooks.

Bettorsworld Hoops Package - We have put together a winning hoops combo package that simply can't be beat. You will get all of our services at the most profitable time of year for just $269.00. Arm yourself with the strongest information available for February, March, April, May and June. This includes all the college hoops regular season, conference tourney action, March Madness and the NBA right thru to the finals in June.

February 2, 2010

Providence at Syracuse - CBB Play of the Day - For today we head up to Syracuse where the Orangemen take on Providence. This game has the potential to be an obliteration. Yes, the number is high at -15.5, but perhaps not high enough. Syracuse is arguably the best team in the country. They are certainly one of about 5 teams that should be the frontrunners come tourney time.

February 1, 2010

UCONN at Louisville - This game matches two teams that had much higher hopes. Both are now in serious jeopardy of making the NCAA tournament this year. In fact, short of winning the Big East tournament, it looks like these two will be headed to the NIT. It shows you how deep the Big East is though, as both squads are capable of playing with anyone in the country.

January 31, 2010

Penn State at Purdue - During football season we talk a lot about the distribution of talent. Specifically how certain teams will always be much better than others as a result of the talent they are able to recruit. Good football players want to attend schools known for their football. Well, same holds true for hoops. There are basketball schools and there are football schools.

January 30, 2010

Portland U at Santa Clara - CBB Play of the Day - For today's play we are going to go out west where Portland will be taking on Santa Clara on the road in a game that starts at 10pm est. Portland is 4-2 and in 3rd place in the West Coast Conference, behind Gonzaga and St Mary's and really can't afford to slip up from here on out. They still hold hopes of an NCAA bid, first by winning the conference and 2nd by hoping the WCC is a 3 bid conference.

January 29, 2010

Harvard at Columbia - Ah, Friday. Friday is like a vacation day for a hoops handicapper. It's "Ivy Night". A short card with only 8 college hoops games to look at as we prepare for the onslaught of Saturday. It's not uncommon to have to pass the entire card on Friday, but we did manage to find one game worth a look.

January 28, 2010

Wisconsin at Purdue - Wisconsin travels to Purdue to take on the Boilermakers tonight with Purdue looking for a little revenge for a loss at Wisconsin earlier in the year. Purdue entered that game 14-0 but ended up on the short end of a 73-66 score. That was also the start of a 3 game slide for Purdue, their only 3 losses of the year, as they dropped games to Ohio State and Northwestern. they have since rebounded with wins over Illinois and Michigan.

January 27, 2010

UCONN at Providence - College Hoops "Play of the Day" - The UCONN Huskies take the short trip to Providence tonight to take on the Friars in a Big East Game that's pivotal for the Huskies. UCONN is a good team, make no mistake about it. At this level, there's not much room for error. A short slump can ruin a season. UCONN at one point was ranked in the top 10 before the wheels fell off.

January 25, 2010

Super Bowl - Early Thoughts - While the dust clears from the AFC and NFC title games, we'll have two weeks to dig into the Super Bowl matchup between the Saints and the Colts, but in the meantime, I wanted to pass along some early thoughts about what we saw this weekend and what we might see in two weeks.

Got an opinion on the Big Game? The Chatter has already started - Check it out here

January 23, 2010

NFC Championship Game - Vikings at Saints - The NFC Title games over the years, in the Super Bowl era, have been like the AFC games. More blowouts than close games. As mentioned in the Colts/Jets write up, there is something about Title games, including Super Bowls, that magnifies the talent gap between teams. If you take a look at all of the past NFC title games, you'll find that only 5 of those games were decided by a field goal or less.

AFC Championship Jets at Colts - Prediction - Analysis - The Surprising New York Jets visit the Colts Sunday afternoon with the winner being crowned AFC Champion and earning a trip to the Super Bowl. This is a matchup no one, with the exception of a crazy Jets fan or two, predicted. But it's a matchup with plenty of twists and turns and sub plots and a matchup which has the potential to be a pretty exciting game.

Favre vs Brees - NFC Title Game Pointspread Trends - While the AFC championship features greenhorn Mark Sanchez against wily vet Peyton Manning, the NFC title game will see two experienced QBs going head to head in the New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees and the Minnesota Vikings’ Brett Favre.

Early Betting Trends AFC Championship - Jets at Colts - The Indianapolis Colts, who are “supposed to be in the AFC title game,” will host the New York Jets, who “weren’t even supposed to make the playoffs” and on top of that, we’ll see the tried, tested and true QB Peyton Manning dueling with the rookie signal-caller Mark Sanchez.

January 16 - 17, 2010

Jets at Chargers - 2* Key Release - The New York Jets head West to take on the San Diego Chargers in the final game this weekend, a game that holds some intrigue and promises to be the perfect ending to a weekend filled with exciting NFL action. The Chargers opened up as a 9 point choice but the Jet money has come in pushing this line down to -7 where it currently sits. The total is 42

Cowboys at Vikings - 3* Key Release - We've been making mention of the Cowboys for a few weeks now. Specifically, that they are a Super Bowl team if they play the way they are capable of. They have a championship defense but have come up short most of the year offensively. We first mentioned this before the Saints game, and stated they could win that game if they executed. Well, they won the Saints game and haven't lost since!

Ravens at Colts  Playoff Analysis  - The Ravens can play with the Colts. They have proved that already this year. But there are some things that will be working against them in this one which definitely have me concerned for my futures position, and also keep me from making a regular play on them in this spot.

Cardinals at Saints 3* Key Release - Well, the NFL playoffs kicked off last week with the Wild Card games and from my perspective, all the games were duds. Unless of course you are a fan, or were a backer of the winning teams who all pretty much had their games in check from the first snap. What the 1st round lacked was drama.

January 9, 2010

Jets at Bengals Wild Card Playoff Game - 2* Key Release - With a few weeks remaining in the NFL season I broke down all of the teams I felt would be in the playoff picture. I took the last 6 weeks, at the time, and took a look at how teams were performing heading into the final 3 weeks of the season. I didn't look at the Jets, because, well, I didn't think they were going to make the playoffs. Surprise! Here they are.

Eagles at Cowboys Wildcard Playoff Game - The Dallas Cowboys are truly one of the "Wild Cards" in this years NFL playoffs and we are not saying that because they happen to be hosting a Wild Card game on Saturday Night. What we mean is, the Cowboys are a team that could potentially beat any other playoff team in either conference if they show up and execute.

Ravens at Patriots - If there's one team I wanted to be able to make a strong case for in the playoffs, it's the Ravens. a futures wager to win the Super Bowl at 50/1 odds is the motivation behind that. What got me excited about the Ravens to begin with, was breaking down the playoff teams back at the beginning of December based on their previous 6 games.

Packers at Cardinals - 2* Key Release - I've been handicapping football games on a serious level for 27 years. If you told me I could only use one or two statistics to handicap a game, one of those stats would be turnover margin. It doesn't take a genius to see the correlation between turnover margin and success in a football game, or success in a football season. Let's take a look at this years best and worst in turnover margin to further clarify this point.

January 7, 2010

Texas vs Alabama - BCS National Title Game - 5* Key Release - When this season started everyone assumed it would be Texas taking on a SEC team in the BCS National Title Game. Most people assumed that team was going to be Florida since Florida was the defending BCS Title Champ and they had QB Tim Tebow coming back, but after Alabama completely dismantled the Gators in the SEC Title Game there was no doubt who was the King of the SEC.

January 5, 2010

Orange Bowl - Iowa vs Georgia Tech - 3* Key Release - If you are a fan of smash mouth football then this is the BCS Bowl Game for you. Since Head Coach Paul Johnson has taken over at Georgia Tech he has installed his triple option rushing attack and it has worked wonders for this team. When Johnson first became the new coach for the Yellow Jackets after coming from Navy a lot of people had serious questions about how effective his offense would be in a BCS conference like the ACC.

January 4, 2010

Fiesta Bowl - Boise St vs TCU - 3* Key Release - It’s not surprising that both TCU and Boise State find themselves in a BCS bowl game after the season both teams had. The surprising part is that they are facing each other in this year’s Fiesta Bowl. I know both mid major teams would have preferred to of faced a team like Alabama or Ohio State, but they still have a lot to prove by winning a BCS Bowl Game.

January 2, 2010

Alamo Bowl - Michigan State vs Texas Tech - This bowl game took an odd twist when the whole Mike Leach story broke a few days ago. Mike Leach led the Red Raiders to 10 straight bowl games, but he will not be leading his football team onto the field for this bowl game after he was fired. Its amazing how fast things can change in college football. Just last year Mike Leach led his Red Raiders to an 11 win season and was named Big 12 coach of the year, and now he is looking for a new job.

January 1, 2010

Rose Bowl - Ohio State vs Oregon - 4* Key Release - Besides the BCS Title game this is the most intriguing game of the whole bowl season. On one sideline you have a team that started the season as bad as you can possibly imagine. Not only did Oregon lose their opening game to Boise State, but they had their starting RB LeGarrette Blount get into a fight after the game with a Boise State player then he had to be restrained from fighting with people in the crowd.

Sugar Bowl - Cincinnati vs Florida - 3* Key Release - The Sugar Bowl has easily been the most talked about bowl game this year. The only problem is most of the talk has nothing to do with the game it has to do with the current and former coaches for the Bearcats and the Gators. Cincinnati lost its Head Coach Brian Kelly to Notre Dame and the Gators Head Coach Urban Meyer resigned for a day.

December 31, 2009

Armed Forces Bowl - Air Force vs Houston - These two teams put on an exciting game last year in this same bowl, so we should have another great game on our hands in the Armed Forces Bowl this year. On one sideline we have Houston’s passing attack ranked 1st in the nation and on the other sideline we have Air Force’s rushing attack ranked 3rd in the nation, so there should be plenty of offense in this one.

Sun Bowl - Stanford vs Oklahoma - Key Release - Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and his Stanford Cardinals football team have had a year to remember. Not only did the Cardinals have their first winning season since 2001 finishing 8-4 their star RB Toby Gerhart had an amazing season and was the runner-up for the Heisman trophy.

Chick-Fil-A-Bowl - Tennessee vs Va Tech - Key Release - Lane Kiffin burst onto the college football scene, and has continued to ruffle feathers as Head Coach at Tennessee. Kiffin and his team have had to go through plenty this season from armed robbery to hostess gate, but even with all those distractions the Volunteers have had a solid year in 2009.

December 30, 2009

Holiday Bowl - Nebraska vs Arizona - Key Release - Nebraska was one second away from pulling a shocking upset over the BCS Title Bound Texas Longhorns. While they are not playing in a BCS Bowl Game because of that one second, they still have had a solid year under Head Coach Bo Pelini, and the future looks bright for the Cornhuskers.

December 29, 2009

Eagle Bank Bowl - UCLA vs Temple - No that is not a misprint, Temple is actually in a Bowl Game. After starting their season 0-2 including a loss to Villanova Temple won 9 games in a row before losing their final game to Ohio. Head Coach Al Golden has done a great job since taking over. This is Temple’s first winning season since 1990, and if they can win this bowl game over UCLA it will be Temple’s first 10 win season since 1979.

Champs Sports Bowl - Wisconsin vs Miami - Before the season started Coach Randy Shannon said he thought his Hurricanes were a Top 10 team, and with a win over Wisconsin his Hurricanes might find themselves in the Top 10 to finish the year. No one started the year off hotter then Miami.

December 28, 2009

Independence Bowl - Georgia vs Texas AM - Few teams have been harder to figure out this season then the 2 teams that will face off in the Independence Bowl tonight. Georgia has had a roller coaster type season that the Georgia Fans are not use to. The Bulldogs finished the year 7-5 with wins over Arkansas, Auburn, and Georgia Tech, but they also lost games to Tennessee and Kentucky.

Monday Night Football Finale - The last two weeks of the NFL season, in our opinion, are the toughest to handicap. We see the same thing happen year after year. Teams that need to win, instead lose to teams that have nothing to play for. How bout those Giants New York fans!

December 27, 2009

Music City Bowl - Kentucky vs Clemson - Both Clemson and Kentucky were planning on being in much bigger bowl games, but both teams find themselves in Nashville over the holidays. Clemson was one win away from playing in the Orange Bowl, but they were unable to take care if business against Georgia Tech in the ACC Title Game, but they still had a solid year in their first year under Head Coach Dabo Swinney. This has been a roller coaster season for the Tigers.

December 26, 2009

Emerald Bowl - BC vs USC - Head Coach Pete Carroll and his mighty Men of Troy have had a season they would like to forget. They were coming into this season off a dominant performance in last year’s Rose Bowl, but they lost their starting QB Mark Sanchez and the majority of their starting defense to the NFL and it showed.

Meinke Car Care Bowl - NC vs Pitt - Pittsburgh was not able to finish their season like they would have hoped. With two games left they were 9-1 and had dreams of a Big East Title and a BCS bowl berth, but after losing back to back games to West Virginia and Cincinnati they find themselves playing in the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

Little Caesars Bowl - Ohio vs Marshall - Head Coach Frank Solich has done a great job of turning this Ohio Football program around, and although he was unable to lead his Bobcats to a MAC Title he is one game away from their first 10 win season since 1968, and their first win in a bowl game in the school’s history.

December 25, 2009

Titans at Chargers - 2* Key Release - At 13-3 a year ago and with the team largely intact, no one expected the Tennessee Titans to fall flat on their faces like they did to start off this season. At 0-6 they were the laughing stock of the NFL and Jeff Fisher was wearing a Peyton Manning Jersey stating he wanted to "feel like a winner". Well, no one is laughing now as Fisher and the Titans are still alive for a playoff birth at 7-7.

December 24, 2009

Hawaii Bowl - SMU vs. Nevada - In terms of location, it doesn't get much better than playing in the Hawaii Bowl. The Southern Methodist University Mustangs will be taking on the Nevada Wolfpack in this year's renewal of the game. SMU will be playing in a Bowl game for the first time since 1984 when they beat Notre Dame.

December 23, 2009

Poinsettia Bowl - Utah vs Cal - While it’s not quite the Sugar Bowl, you won’t find a single player on the Utah Utes team that isn’t happy to be playing against the California Golden Bears in the Poinsettia Bowl. The Utes have compiled a strong record of 9-3 this year, with losses coming against Oregon, TCU, and BYU. All three of those teams are very solid, and two will be playing in BCS Bowls this year. Utah is a team that must be respected.

December 22, 2009

Las Vegas Bowl - BYU vs Oregon State - BYU came into the season with high expectations, and those expectations went through the roof when the Cougars were able to upset #3 ranked Oklahoma in the season opener. While those expectations might have been unreasonable after the way we saw Oklahoma finish the year, BYU was still unable to have that BCS buster year, but they still had a very good year.

December 21, 2009

Giants in Must Win at Redskins  - The Cowboys win over the Saints on Saturday Night made things even more desperate for the New York Giants. The Giants needed the Saints and 49ers to win this week and neither happened. So the noose is now tightening.

December 19, 2009

Cowboys at Saints  - Crucial Saturday Night Game - Unlike the game Thursday night between the Colts and Jags, this game Saturday with the Cowboys taking on the Saints actually is important to both teams. Sure, the Saints would need lots of bad luck for them not to end up with home field throughout the playoffs, but if you're the Saints, you don't want to leave that for others to decide.

New Mexico Bowl - Wyoming vs Fresno State - The 2009 Bowl Season kicks off with the New Mexico Bowl where we have a matchup between the Fresno State Bulldogs and Wyoming Cowboys. The Bulldogs finished the season 8-4 including wins over Illinois and Idaho, and also had impressive close losses to Wisconsin and Cincinnati

ST Petersburg Bowl - Central Florida vs Rutgers - The Scarlet Knights will try to make it 4 in a row in bowl games when they take on the Central Florida Knights this Saturday in the St. Petersburg Bowl. Head Coach Greg Schiano has really turned this Rutgers program around. Schiano started a little rocky going 12-34 to start his tenure at Rutgers, but since then this football team has gained some momentum

Week 15 Totals Ratings - Looking for an edge on your over under wagers? Look no further.

December 17, 2009

Colts vs Jags - Indy Looks to remain Undefeated - This time of year can be one of the trickiest for a football handicapper. This is where you run into games such as this one with the Colts already having clinched a playoff spot and home field advantage, while the Jags are in a do or die situation. Many bettors make the mistake of automatically going with the team that needs the win.

December 13, 2009

Bengals vs Vikings - 3* Key Release - What probably sticks out the most in this matchup of two playoff teams and likely division winners, is their schedule. Specifically, the padding of their schedule and stats with wins over weak teams. They are both guilty of it. Not their faults of course. But it is what it is.

NFL Week 14 Betting Trends and Info - One month left in the NFL regular season and we still have two undefeated teams. The Colts are one of two teams that are 12-0 (the New Orleans Saints are the other). Is this the weekend the mighty fall? Indy should have a battle on their hands as they host the 8-4 Denver Broncos. The sports betting community isn’t giving the Broncos much of a chance so far.

Week 14 Totals Ratings - Week 14 Totals Ratings for over/under players

December 10, 2009

If the NFL Playoffs Started Today - Predicting a Super Bowl Champ - With college football out of the way this week, we had a little extra time, so we decided to take a look at the NFL to see how all of the contenders shape up as we head down the stretch. While season to date numbers are always important, so too are current numbers. In other words, how has a team played lately? Have they fallen apart and hit the skids? Are they all of a sudden hot?
